From static to live: Connect your SharePoint Copilot App to (live) external news

Bild
Give your Copilot-generated news board a live connection to external data—with Power Automate and a SharePoint list.   In this second video demonstration, I extend the solution from Part 1 so that the dashboard can display updated news without recreating the HTML app. Why the first News Board needed an upgrade In the first video, I used a small Power Automate flow to retrieve news from an HTTP endpoint—an address that provides data from an external service. The flow saved the response as news-data.json in a SharePoint document library. Copilot then used that file to create an attractive HTML news board. However, the news entries were embedded directly into the generated HTML. The dashboard contained a snapshot of the data available when it was created. Updating the JSON file did not update the news board, because the app had no ongoing connection to its source. ...

External Data in SharePoint: Build a Copilot HTML App with Power Automate

Bild
A blocked HTTP request does not have to stop your next SharePoint app. With a small Power Automate flow and a file in a SharePoint library, you can bring external information into an interactive HTML dashboard created with Copilot. In this video, I demonstrate the approach with a company news feed. The goal is to turn news from an external service into an attractive dashboard with headlines, dates, categories, and additional details on demand. The challenge: Copilot cannot connect the app directly to the endpoint My first idea was straightforward: give Copilot the endpoint details, describe the desired layout, and ask it to build the app. An HTTP endpoint is simply a web address through which a service provides data—in this case, company news. However, Copilot-generated HTML apps running in SharePoint's HTML page experience cannot call external HTTP endpoints directly. SharePoint runs these pages in a restricted sandbox and blocks outbound API calls. Provid...

Two SharePoint Lists, One Interactive App—Built with Copilo

Bild
Can Copilot build an HTML app that brings together two connected SharePoint lists? Yes—and this video demonstrates exactly that. Using a training catalogue and a participant registration list, I create an interactive app that helps employees explore training offers, view registered participants, and start their own registration. The key ingredient is a lookup column connecting the two lists . Copilot uses this relationship to bring the right information together in one interface. With the Smart HTML application page Integrator web part, the finished app becomes part of an existing SharePoint page. A practical example: Employee Training and Registration Many companies manage internal training in SharePoint. One list holds the available courses, while another records who has registered for each session. This is also the starting point for the demonstration. SharePoint list Purpose ...

From Prompt to Message Board: Build a SharePoint message app in under 5 Minutes!

Bild
A live message board, automatic updates, and interactive details—all created with Copilot without writing a single line of code. What if your next intranet improvement started with a simple description? In this video, I demonstrate how to build a custom notification and message board app with Copilot in under five minutes. Then I embed it into an existing SharePoint page using the Smart HTML application page Integrator web part. The result is a compact, interactive board that keeps company messages visible exactly where employees already work. HTML apps now feel at home in SharePoint SharePoint can now render raw HTML pages directly within the SharePoint chrome, without distracting document-preview controls. Here, “chrome” means the familiar SharePoint surroundings, such as the site header and navigation. Your HTML content becomes part of that experience, with the focus on the app itself. This opens up useful possibilities for custom dashboards, informati...

Bring SharePoint to Life: HTML Apps on every page that refresh automatically!

Bild
A support ticket changes status, and your dashboard updates a few seconds later—right inside your SharePoint page. In my latest video, I demonstrate how native HTML pages, Copilot, and the Smart HTML application page Integrator work together to make this possible. Raw HTML, seamlessly integrated into SharePoint SharePoint can now render raw HTML pages directly within the SharePoint chrome, without distracting file-preview controls. “Chrome” simply means the familiar SharePoint surroundings, such as the site header and navigation. Your HTML content appears within that environment, giving users a clean, focused experience. This makes HTML a useful option for dashboards, visual summaries, and small business applications. Users can open the content and stay within the SharePoint site they already know. HTML is now a fully supported page type in SharePoint’s Site Pages library. You can create or upload HTML pages, edit their content, publish them, and share th...

Gestaltungsfreiheit in SharePoint & Neuerungen für flexible Abschnitte

Bild
Was machen flexible Abschnitte möglich?

How-to-fix: Could not find any valid connection for connection reference / InvokerConnectionOverrideFailed

Bild
Connection handling in Power-Automate is sometimes a challenge, especially when you change a connection later. I encountered today the following error after I switched a Power-Automate flow to a service account: { "error": { "code":"InvokerConnectionOverrideFailed", "message":"Could not find any valid connection for connection reference name 'xxx' in APIM header.", "messageTemplate":"InvokerConnectionOverrideFailed" } } The problem behind this error is a typical credentials caching conflict. The InvokerConnectionOverrideFailed error occurs when Power Automate tries to swap the runtime context to use the app user's credentials (the "Invoker"), but the system cannot find, validate, or map a matching connection token. However, other factors can also cause this error: Expired or Stale Cached Tokens Connection Dependency Disconnect The...

Copilot für SharePoint: Von der Beschreibung zur kompletten Website

Bild

Running Scripts Inside Copilot Studio Skills: Understanding the New Agent Sandbox

Bild
Copilot Studio agents can now do more than generate text. With the new agent experience, a Skill can include executable scripts, templates, reference files, and other resources. Python code can perform calculations, process documents, validate data, and generate complete files inside an isolated execution environment. From the SharePoint Sandbox to the Copilot Studio Agent Sandbox For experienced SharePoint developers, the term sandbox is not new. SharePoint Server introduced sandboxed solutions as a way to execute custom code outside the main SharePoint IIS worker process. Instead of loading an assembly into w3wp.exe , SharePoint executed it in the separate and monitored SPUCWorkerProcess.exe process. Quotas, throttling, and a reduced API surface helped prevent custom code from destabilizing the entire farm. The new Copilot Studio Agent Sandbox follows a similar architectural principle: custom or AI-generated code should not execute directly inside the core service. It runs in...
